A large part of the population simply don't care about 'the recession'.

You should check around. We have had the same scheme since 1988. I have had surgery under it, so has my wife. The service we received was outstanding.

Either you're a congressman or you're completely full of shit.

You are saying these's no such thing as an effective health insurance policy?

Get real. I can call and ask someone whether lemons have more vitamins in them than oranges at 4am, and get a 3 page fucking response before breakfast.

My life isn't booming, it's probably not going to. But it's not going to bust either, no matter how hard the recession hits.

The point is simpler than you guys think it is. This thread was dead after the first post - if you think you can pick my position apart by chipping away at it, you're wrong - like I said, me and millions like me can guarantee that our lifestyles will be utterly immune to any financial crisis or credit crunch.

Amen Obama is irrelevant, why because I am smarter than they are in Washington, they can do nothing to affect me. the whole economic crisis was planned to controll the "little people" I think was how Obama put it in a speech in San Fransisco.

My work is not dependant on the government. It is barely dependant on the US economy. On any economy, for that matter.

I work in an industry that has proven to be pretty much the most resiliant to financial busts (and booms) since industrialisation evolved.

I really, and I mean REALLY assure you, the whole country can go bust around me, and it won't make any difference.

I think this is true for most Americans, in fact business is booming everywhere I go. in fact I just happen to know 60 new cars were bought in my town as Christmas present for wifes. we also have a new Radio shack, Subway deli and Dunkin donuts moving in. as well as a lot of Californians.

Of course you don't. It doesn't touch you, yet. The longer the recession/depression goes on the more likely it will touch you, or others who think as you do.

Just like the early 1990s, the crime will come for you eventually.

You're quite wrong.

In the early 90's, I was just getting my career moving. It has been steady and solid ever since.

I'll give you this - if the recession goes on for more than 25 years, I may start to worry.

Until then, the biggest effect it will have on me is the time I'm taking to post in this thread.

eh... I have no debt. I've turned down job offers in the midwest but I want to complete school first. Grandmother passed...sold the house so my parents are pretty secure. My town has few abandoned houses..some box stores..town next to us has homes usually starting around 600k.

In the northeast or at least mass we're pretty immune to the rest of the country. We zone the shit out of housing and don't really create that many units. Heck the Boston skyline doesn't have that much to put it against others. The schools (not all are governmental), medical, governmental, banks (still some left) and tech sector make unemployment low.

The bay area can be a "fortress" all you want but the problem is it isn't the capital. The northeast pretty much runs the country. Boston, NYC, Philly and DC. The difference between the west and east is night and day. Yeah the weather sucks but that creates a deterrence against some things (illegals). Illegals in the summer doing yardwork? Sure...shoveling snow in February? Not a chance.

Like I said - millions upon millions of people who just won't feel the slightest difference.

Sometimes I'll go for 3 days without reading the news. There's almost nothing in it of any great interest to me. I have little interest in politics, I don't care who wins or loses, or what they're contesting.

I guess that means I lack the sophistication of a lot of people, but I'm well educated, have travelled widely and don't feel I'm missing much.

I'm not talking about you, or your career. I'm talking about the animals outside the gate.

The amount of darkies this time around will make things worse if the downturn goes on too long.

You can hide behind the gates for only so long before they get to you.

Oh. I thought for a moment you were being serious.

OK, noted. I'll watch out for the DVD.

I work in a pretty reliable industry. My job is one of the last ones that will disappear in a financial crisis.

I'm not rich, but I earn a comfortable living.

My credit rating is gold plated, I have financed just about every large purchase I ever made for the last 20 years, have a mortgage, and have never missed a payment on anything.

I don't have a credit card, I have a Visa card that debits straight out of my account. It's a joint account with my wife.

Bought a new car in November. Sits beside my 11 month old motorcycle under the carport.

I can state that the recession means absolutely ZIP to me. My house hasn't increased in value for 2 years, but who gives a shit, I'm not moving. In 5 years time it'll all be over and I'll just watch the value start creeping up again.

Nada. Zilch. Simply don't give a shit.

Sounds pleasant.

Except for my house being bought during the bubble, I'm fine too. Business is doing well, no raises recently, but my spouse got one. Two paid-off cars, two retirement accounts (one at 100k, the other at 20k, and we're late 30s), pension plan that is rock-solid, 50k cash in the bank for emergencies.

And psst, neither of us have a college degree but our household income is 160k in a cheap part of the country.

Economic crisis is a hoax designed to spread the wealth (Yours) Democrats even admit they created it, remember never let a good crisis go to waste.
