What was San Francisco like back in the 80s and early 90s when regular people could afford?

SoMa was actually rather scary.

Much rattier and dirtier than it is now,

the O'Farrel red light district was totally sleazy and the crime zone started on the south side of Market. Mission was junkie central

the AIDS epidemic cleaned SF up quite a bit. It wasn't just gays, the junkies and whores were also eradicated

I grew up in SF during the 80s and things were awesome. The population of SF was much smaller. It was a great place to live and grow up. Things started to take a turn for the worse in the mid 90s with the Tech bubble.

I went there for my honeymoon in 1984.

We stayed north of Market the entire weekend.

I got raped at knife point in SoMa. To this day, I always carry a gun everywhere I go.

I wonder if BayAryaan was 'making the scene' in 80's in San Fran.
I'll bet he could regale us with some ripping good yarns!

It was not affordable in the 80's. By the late 80's it was overrun with bums literally shitting in the streets.

Circa 95 I walked by a bum with his ass hanging over a railing taking a shit on the sidewalk. 9:00 AM three blocks from the convention center. People walked around it like it was nothing.

Look at a map sometime and see how close that is to the Tenderloin.

I don't care where it was. I have never, ever seen anything like it. In Calcutta (or whatever the fuck it's called now) or Howrah (it's sister city slum), in Turkey, or any of another dozen shithole third world countries I've had the fortune to visit for a while.

People in suits literally stepping around the shit this dude was depositing on the fucking sidewalk in broad daylight. No one missed a beat. Even NYC in it's most fucked up state was not as weird.

I think the population has held at 749,000 for the past 30 years at least.

The tech bubble priced all of the cool people out of San Francisco and replaced them with latte-swilling, lentil weaving cunts.

The Tenderloin is pretty similar to Calcutta, tard. I've seen a bum take a shit in a paper cup in NYC. There are worse places.

But not by much.

I used to date a woman that lived in SF. Most every Friday night I would drive up from LA and stay the weekend. It was a beautiful clean mellow city. No bumbs or blatant fags. The tourists rode the cars and the Chinese food was top notch. Church bells rang Sunday morning. It was really quite nice.
Unbelievable how bad and run down the city is now

I've looked at the Census data. The 80s were a definite low point in population since the 50/60s. SF started adding a lot more people in the 90s and the place is so much more crowded with so much more traffic. It is a much different place now.

SF was much more dangerous and grittier in the 80s. There were many more black people than there are now. But it was still a much better city because too many people with tons of money just ruin a place.

Then that must have happened prior to WWII.
