Interesting background to this. Historically the American left has been anarchist in nature. In the later part of the 1800s European Marxists began influencing the American left. A basic goal of Marxism is to establish an all-powerful state, which the anarchists oppose. So around 1920 the marxists conspired with teh American government to round up 35,000 anarchists and take away their American citizenship. Emma Goldman was one of them, and she had to go to the new Soviet Union.

You're probably right. Vancouver is one of the cuntiest places I know. People who move here often remark how hard it is to make friends because of the general coldness of Vancouverites. That being said, Saltspring Islanders are even worse.

Like I said it's an upper middle class anglo clique, the elite of BC as it were...people so well off they don't even have to commute to work downtown. They might cruise in once or twice a week to do some business in town but basically they can afford to just live a very hip laid back lifestyle on their lovely little island.
